The Student Guild of Carillonneurs at Westminster College was founded by Ms. Paula Kubik, the faculty sponsor and professor of organ and carillon at Westminster College, and Mr. Joseph R. Bandi, the Westminster College Student Carillonneur from 2014-2017. The Student Guild became an officially recognized campus group in November 2016. The goals of the Student Guild of Carillonneurs is to promote knowledge of the instrument and to keep a regular ringing schedule of the bells in the tower. The guild plays the instrument every Sunday night a half an hour prior to the weekly Vespers service that is held in the Wallace Memorial Chapel at 7 p.m. Membership for the guild is open to any actively enrolled student at Westminster College, regardless of major. Currently, the President of the guild is Mr. Joseph R. Bandi, the Secretary is Ms. Keely E. Mohn, and the Treasurer is Ms. Taylor E. Powell. If you wish to learn more about the Guild of Carillonneurs, please contact one of our officers, like our Facebook page, or review our Constitution.
Every year, a member of the student guild is selected to be the recipient of the "Friends of the Carillon" Scholarship established by The Reverend Dr. Paul Musser '45 and his Wife, Mrs. Peggy Musser '45. Dr. Musser played the bells while he attended Westminster College as a student, and continued to play the instrument after he completed his terminal degrees and returned to New Wilmington, PA. The purpose of the scholarship is to give current Westminster Students a chance to study the instrument and learn the art of how to play the carillon. The student, in return, has a primary role in playing the instrument prior to the vespers service on Sunday nights, as well as on special occasions throughout the academic year. The current recipient of the scholarship is Mr. Joseph R. Bandi, class of 2017 and current president of the Student Guild of Carillonneurs.
